Summary of the story
Zi Xuan, the disciple of the Green Emperor, possesses expertise in medicine and is currently engaged in the cultivation process to attain deity status. During his journey, he encounters a young white snake, affectionately named Xiao Bai, whom he adopts as a pet. As time progresses, Xiao Bai accumulates enough cultivation to transform into a teenage human girl, and a deep bond forms between her and Zi Xuan, eventually blossoming into a profound romance. In an unfortunate turn of events, Xiao Bai inadvertently breaks a celestial seal within the elixir chamber of Mount Jiuxi while searching for a herb to save Zi Xuan's life after he sustains an injury. This act inadvertently releases an ancient beast known as the black water dragon, which had been imprisoned in the human world for a thousand years. Recognizing the imminent threat to the world, Zi Xuan selflessly sacrifices himself, disintegrating in the process. However, before fading away, he bestows upon Xiao Bai a proper name: Bai Yaoyao. Following Zi Xuan's demise, Bai Yaoyao is overwhelmed with grief and chooses to withdraw from the world. A millennium passes, and fate reunites them once again. Zi Xuan, now reborn as Xu Xian, assumes the role of the chief of the Yao Shi Palace, a renowned medicinal valley. However, he has no recollection of his past with Bai Yaoyao. In contrast, she retains vivid memories of their shared history and endeavors to ensure that he leads a tranquil and harmonious life.
